Alternative Cover Art for Diamond Head

Collage shows caustics on water. Map of Diamond Head. There are two images of heads: One, a dark face is speaking to a perhaps sunburned face. The speach is imaged as a streamer of color braking on the faces of the sunburned tourist; the speach is in a context of a shimmer of caustics.

Sunburned face has a phrenological cross-section. This illustrates the idea of the labyrinthian folds of the mind as sections or rooms over the walls of which ideas must flow, and then they are contained in the appropriate areas when this input is captured. The head contains a multifaceted diamond, the brain.

Collage shows caustics on one side of a pyramidal diamond. Another face of the diamond shows a full moon over night ocean. The movement of color waves from left to right suggests the diamond head pyramid as a filter, moving into complexity of city.  The diamond-pyramid is a symbol of the organazing principal of place.

Collage showing famous Honolulu landmark Diamond Head giving off its luster in the form of caustic shimmer beneath it. Illustration of a fish focusing on the gill apparatus shows surfer boy.

A main character in the story is Uncle Gil, who becomes like Poseidon, the ancient voice of the sea. He speaks about the intelligence in the water, hence the brain coral.
